EMERSON TO SUPPLY WESTINGHOUSE OVATION® INFORMATION AND CONTROL SYSTEM FOR BRAZILIAN POWER PLANT

Return to Press Release Index

PITTSBURGH, PA (March 25, 2002) -- Westinghouse Process Control, a business of Emerson Process Management, has been selected to provide its Ovation® Information & Control System for expanded generating capacity in Brazil. The company will install the Microsoft® Windows®-based version of its groundbreaking system at the new Tres Lagoas facility in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, through a contract between the project's architect/engineer, Promon, and Emerson Process Management of Brazil.

The Tres Lagoas facility is a natural-gas-fueled combined-cycle plant. Phase I of the project will generate 200 MW and will be followed by an identical 200 MW addition in 2002. The plant is owned and will be operated by Petrobras, the Brazilian-government-owned oil and gas company. The facility is being constructed by a consortium, Odebrecht/Promon, under an engineer/procure/construct contract.

The Ovation system uses an open architecture approach that helps eliminate concerns about technological obsolescence and dependence on proprietary systems. Operating on a high-speed, high-capacity network, Ovation was the first system built to open industry standards. It uses commercially available hardware and allows easy integration with a customer's existing IT systems, while maintaining process security.
