The Ovation interface to GE Genius I/O provides a means for
our customers to cost effectively migrate to new technology
while retaining previous investments in I/O hardware and the
associated wiring.
The Ovation GE Genius interface communicates directly with
the Ovation controller through Fast Ethernet, without the
need for a serial interface. This architecture provides increased
reliability at high speeds and unmatched throughput with consistently
accurate inputs and outputs.
The Ovation Genius I/O interface module acts as a Genius
bus master, while also exchanging information to the Ovation
controller. Available in either redundant or non-redundant
designs, the interface supports up to 31 GE Genius modules,
depending upon the system configuration. Existing Genius features,
including cable redundancy through the Genius Bus Switching
Mode (BSM), are fully supported without modification to the
standard Genius bus.
Once connected to the Genius bus, the bus converter automatically
detects the Genius I/O configuration and transfers it to the
Ovation system. Upon completion of the auto-detection and
user specific configuration, Ovation points are assigned directly
to the Genius device channel, using the Ovation Developer
Studio, just like native Ovation I/O, without complex mapping
of registers. Genius networks are displayed and configured
through drag-and-drop functions in a typical Explorer tree
structure. Genius modules are configured through dialog boxes
with pull-down selections.
