Prerequisites
Students must have a good understanding of the Ovation® system architecture.
Experience working in a Windows environment is helpful but not necessary. Prior completion of OV100-WIN, OV210-WIN and either OV200-WIN-3.0.X or OV200-WIN-3.1.X is highly recommended but not required.
Description
The course will provide students with an understanding of Ovation® system licensing, security, configuration, backup, and recovery. Students will learn how to navigate the Ovation file system as well as basic administration skills. Students will also explore Ovation workstation hardware. This course is intended for Ovation system administrators and those wishing to complete the Ovation Certification Program.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, using the reference material provided,
the student will be able to:
- Navigate and understand the Ovation Developer Studio
- Understand licensing of the Ovation system
- Implement process control and user security in the Ovation system (2.3 and lower)
- Apply system configuration changes to the Ovation system
- Add new and modify existing drops to the Ovation system
- Navigate and understand the Ovation file systems, structure, sharing, and security
- Backup the Ovation database and required files to various media
- Load an Ovation system
- Recover the Ovation database and required files from backup
- Understand upgrading and maintaining the Ovation hardware
- Use Developer Studio to implement given control requirements
- Map and share directories and files in the Windows
environment

Module 1
- Understand Ovation system hierarchy
- Demonstrate proficiency using the mouse right-click functionality
- Open configuration "objects"
- Insert new configuration "objects"
Module 2
- Understand, add and modify licensing for Ovation drops, Developer Studio, Control Builder and Graphics Builder
- Understand, add and modify licensing for Ovation special features
- Understand, add and modify licensing for AutoCAD
Module 3
- Configure point access labels
- Modify user-based security
- Modify drop-based security
- Configure Windows-based security
Module 4
- Configure parameters at the system level
- Configure parameters at the network level
- Configure parameters at the unit level
- Configure parameters at the drop level
- Create a new Ovation drop
Module 5
- Describe the differences between NTFS and FAT file systems
- Describe, add and modify NTFS access rights, auditing and ownership
- Describe, add and modify Windows file sharing permissions
- Understand the differences between the run time files, software server files and Oracle database files
Module 6
- Determine the correct operating system required for your level of Ovation software
- Define the required support software such as service packs and patches for your operating systems
- Determine the correct versions of third-party software, Oracle and AutoCAD for your Ovation software
- Understand hardware compatibility issues
Module 7
- Determine and obtain the correct system drivers
- Save and export the Ovation System Level folder
- Implement the OvptExport command for a partial database export
- Export a complete Oracle database
- Use the Ovation backup utility for scheduled periodic backups
Module 8
- Successfully load the Windows operating system
- Successfully load Windows support software and patches
- Successfully load Windows device drivers
- Successfully load the Ovation software including the Oracle database
- Successfully load the AutoCAD license manager and client software
Module 9
- Follow the load procedure to the proper point for recovery
- Perform a complete import of the Oracle database
- Restore the System Level folder to its proper location
- Use OvPtImport to do a partial import of the Oracle database
Module 10
- Describe and examine Dell workstation hardware
- Describe and examine other Ovation system hardware
Module 11
- Demonstrate proficiency using Windows Task Manager
- Use Ovation Event Viewer
- Understand functions of the Performance Monitor
- Use Windows diagnostics
