Third-Party Interfaces Between Ovation and Both an Allen-Bradley PLC and a Modbus Device
(OV290-UNX)
Duration
Two Days
Scheduled Dates
May 14-15, 2008
December 10-11, 2008
Prerequisites
Students should have a basic understanding of building point records, using
algorithms, and building control sheets on an Ovation system. These subjects
are covered in the OV100-UNX and OV200-UNX-1.8.X or OV200-UNX-1.9.X courses.
Description
This course covers the configuration and setup of third-party interfaces to programmable logic controllers through the virtual device drivers within the Ovation controller. The communications link uses TCP/IP protocol. This class will include instruction on defining the device drivers within the controller, assigning the IP addresses, and creating third-party points with the correct I/O access path.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, using the reference material provided,
the student will be able to:
Create links to an Allen Bradley SLC5/05
Build a TCP/IP link to a Modbus device
Map different data types to and from PLCs
Describe the different data types and how to use the status bits for troubleshooting
Use diagnostic utilities to troubleshoot both links for correct functionality
Discuss common pitfalls that cause trouble while commissioning these links
