Prerequisites
Students must have a good understanding of WDPF WEStation system architecture.
It is recommended that students attend the WSU-8.6 (WEStation
Software User) or WSM-8.6 (WEStation Software Maintenance)
course prior to attending this course.
Description
This introductory networking course provides students with an understanding
of network design at the plant site. The class gives students the ability
to interface with various network devices and the skill necessary to implement
secure remote sessions on the WEStation network. This course is intended
for anyone who will administer and/or maintain a WEStation network or link
it to other networks within the plant.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Design and implement a WEStation networking scheme
- Use TCP/IP diagnostic tools provided with the WDPF system
for the Ethernet network
- Analyze problem situations on the network and propose
viable solutions
- Implement a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connection
to the network
- Create and use a remote session running on a WEStation
network
- Develop a security scheme for a WEStation network to
interface with a plant network
- Configure a workstation as a router between the WEStation
network and another Ethernet network
- Use file transfer programs to move information across
the network
- Configure a personal computer for X-window functionality
- Appreciate the practical application of the ISO seven-layer model
