WDPF System & Product Descriptions

The Westinghouse Distributed Processing Family (WDPF®) distributed control and information system provides modulating control, sequential control, and data acquisition for a wide variety of process applications. The modular, open nature of the WDPF® architecture makes it well suited to both simple and complex processes, large and small applications, and a variety functions. Dual network architecture provides effective and reliable communications-a deterministic network for real-time process control data and an open Ethernet Information Highway for file transfer, remote access, and enterprise integration. WDPF® offers the flexibility to fully integrate plant process control, local and wide area SCADA systems, PLC networks, maintenance management and laboratory computer systems in a single, unified architecture. And WDPF® allows you to start with a small system and readily expand as your process and information needs grow and change.

Drops performing functions such as CRT graphic updates, control loop processing, alarm reporting, historical data collection and log printing, all respond as fast during plant alarms as they do under steady-state conditions. The system can be expanded to a total of 254 drops, with no practical limitation on the number of any one type of drop. A total of 32,000 individually named points, devices, digital groups, and WDPFII overhead points are allowed, with 16,000 variables updated each second witho6/13/07 total coaxial data highway length allowed is 6,000 m or 3.7 miles, with no minimum or maximum distance specified between drops.

System Features:

  • Consists of a variety of functional units, called drops, which communicate freely and rapidly via the WDPFII Westnet Data Highway.
  • Architecture permits all drops on the Data Highway to have transparent access to any other drop's process point values.
  • Each drop on the Data Highway is a sophisticated microprocessor capable of a large array of independent functions.
  • Drops can be added as needed to expand the capability of the system over its entire life.
