WDPF®
Distributed Processing Unit
|

|
These powerful
"controllers" execute simple or complex modulating and sequential
control strategies; perform data acquisition functions; and
provide the interface to the Westnet II Data Highway and Q-Line
I/O subsystem. The Distributed Processing Unit (DPU) is the
generator of plant information - information which is needed
by plant operators, process engineers, maintenance, laboratory,
and administrative personnel throughout the enterprise to improve
operations and enhance efficiency. WDPFII incorporates a distributed
global database residing in the drop that originates a point.
The database for any point in the system resides in one location,
typically the Distributed Processing Unit. All other drops need
only to refer to the tag name. As a result, only one database
is required with WDPF® for graphics, alarming, trending,
and computation functions, such as performance calculations.
In addition, all devices view the exact same value and quality
throughout the WDPFII system. Since all drops are synchronized
to 1/8 of a millisecond, time tagging of process data occurs
within the distributed global database, and not at a console
or computer. Quality is established in the DPU and propagated
to all drops on the highway.
DPU Features:
- Data processing by a high-speed 32-bit dedicated micro-computer.
- Processing power capabilities for all scanning, alarm
checking, and control functions.
- User-defined loop speeds from 10 milliseconds to 30 seconds,
